What We Offer
Allergy Skin Testing
We employ the latest and virtually painless allergy skin testing system currently available. In a private exam room, we will be able to identify exactly what environmental substances, foods, insect venoms, and medications you are allergic to within minutes. We ask that, if medically possible, you avoid all antihistamines for 3 days prior to your visit. These include Benedryl, Claritin, Allegra, Zyrtec, Xyzal, and certain over-the-counter cold medications. Please call our office if there are any questions about our allergy treatment.
Allergy Treatment – Shots/Immunotherapy
Allergy treatment consists of a comprehensive three part strategy. The first part consists of complete avoidance of all known allergens identified through skin testing. Secondly, medications are used to diminish the inflammatory process that leads to allergies and asthma. Unfortunately, these first two options are not always practical and often only partially effective in controlling symptoms.
At this stage, allergen immunotherapy is strongly recommended as this option is the closest to a “cure.” Immunotherapy or allergy “shots” is a process of desensitization that helps patients become tolerant to their allergens. Unlike medications, it actually stops the allergic reactions from happening in the first place. This is achieved by gradually receiving a series of painless injections with the very allergens you are allergic to thereby increasing tolerance.
Pulmonary Function Testing and Exhaled Nitric Oxide Measurement
Although asthma is a clinical diagnosis, pulmonary function testing is essential in determining the severity of your asthma and selecting the proper treatment options. It requires exhaling into a device called a spirometer that will measure how well air flows through your lungs. We also offer the latest in exhaled nitric oxide testing. This test is highly sensitive in measuring airway inflammation that occurs in asthma.
Food Testing and Oral Challenges
Food allergies can be diagnosed with a thorough history followed by skin testing. Many times your doctor will then perform a carefully supervised oral food challenge in the office to rule in or rule out your food allergies with 100% certainty.
With their advance training and experience in allergy, asthma and immunology, our providers have also been diagnosing and successfully treating other conditions including:
– Sinus problems
– Sinus headaches
– Chronic cough
– Immune deficiencies
-Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD)
